Tennessee Rugby Park

In 2007 the Smoky Mountain Athletic Club (SMAC) signed a multi-year lease with Knox County for 20 acres on Oak Ridge Highway for the purposes of constructing athletic fields to play rugby football. After playing on fields that were ill-prepared for rugby fir the first six years of the league, this action fulfills the dream of a park in East Tennessee that is dedicated to the sport of rugby. High school teams from throughout East Tennessee began play on the fields in the spring of 2009.  Additionally, University of Tennessee Rugby Team plays matches and sessions for middle school age players will be held at the park beginning in 2009.

In 2013 SMAC began construction of a much needed restroom and storage facility. These buildings were completed and opened to the public in 2014.

Construction, maintenance and operation of the Tennessee Rugby Park is completely privately funded.  No tax payer dollars were used in any aspect of the creation and operation of the park. Rather, the Smoky Mountain Athletic Club and the Volunteer Rugby Foundation, two 501c3 non-profits, joined forces to fund the creation of the first multi-field facility in the South dedicated to the sport of rugby.
