2011 Olympic Sevens Rugby State Championship
November 12, 2011 (Tennessee Rugby Park,
Knoxville, TN) Ravenwood High School swept all honors on Saturday as their boys claimed a decisive victory over South Doyle in the boys championship and the girls got past Maryville in the girls finale. Most Valuable Player honors went to Ravenwood's Ashley Smith and Jared Facer.
In the boys semifinals, Ravenwood ran past Overton while South Doyle got by Farragut on penalty kicks in bonus time. In the final, Ravenwood capitalized on some early turnovers and untimely kicking by South Doyle to jump to a 21 point lead and then held off a South Doyle rally in the second half to claim the 2011 Tennessee Boys Olympic Rugby Championship.
The girls semifinals featured decisive victories by Ravenwood over Cheatham Central, and Maryville over Riverdale. Ravenwood used a good combination of pace and solid tackling to earn a hard fought victory over Maryville and the 2011 Tennessee Girls Olympic Rugby Championship.
