Maryville Retains SMAC Conference Championship
May 01, 2010 (Knoxville, TN) - Maryville Girls repeated as conference champions with a hard fought victory over Karns 13-10. Both teams focused on their strengths as Maryville used an open attack with occasional tactical kicking while Karns focused on a more vertical game featuring hard running and excellent rucking. Maryville got a try from flyhalf McKenzie Hawkins and two penalty kicks and a conversion from Cierra Davis. Amy Satkowiak and Victoria Gowdy touched down tries for Karns.
Most in attendance declared the match the most exciting and technically sound game every played at the Tennessee Rugby Park. The win sends Maryville to the Tennessee High School State Championship tournament as the #1 SMAC and the #1 THSR seed while Karns advances as the SMAC #2 seed. |
