Maryville Retains SMAC Conference Championship
May 03, 2009 (Knoxville, TN) - Maryville Black Girls continued their dominance with a 48-5 victory over Karns in the 2009 conference finals. The win sends Maryville to the Tennessee High School State Championship tournament as the #1 SMAC and the #1 THSR seed while Karns advances as the SMAC #2 and the #3THSR seed in the state tournament.

Karns showed great effort and plenty of heart in taking on the reining south champions. However, championship Sunday belonged to Maryville as they took control in the second half with some strong rucking from their forwards and solid continuity in the backline and never looked back in route to the championship.
